In August 2012
APCI is planning to send a group of youth and youth leaders to CLAY. We are
beginning the process of receiving names of youth and youth leaders who are
interested in attending this Gathering and starting and encouraging fundraising
events. We are also excited to have a group of youth from our partner diocese,
The Diocese of Montreal, join us in August for some time getting to know APCI
and then attending CLAY with us.
We need your
help to get the word out to all youth in APCI about this exciting opportunity
and to get the fundraising underway.
You’ll find more information on the CLAY event below. Detailed
information will be posted online at www.CLAYlinked2012.blogspot.com
as soon as it is available. In the meantime, check out www.clay2012.ca for some information.
If you have any
questions please contact Melissa Green by email at: stpaulscathedralyouth@gmail.com

What
is it? CLAY stands for
the Canadian Lutheran and Anglican Youth Gathering and takes place every two
years in a different location across Canada. The 2010 Gathering was held in
London, Ontario and we sent from APCI a Home Team Leader and two youth. The
CLAY 2012 website describes CLAY as:
At CLAY you will encounter scripture
in meaningful ways, experience ancient and modern ways of worship, learn in
special interest Forums, enjoy fantastic social events, tour Saskatoon, make
connections with youth from all over Canada and celebrate our life together.
This is also a youth-centered program that empowers youth and develops
leadership. Not only will we have an extraordinary time at CLAY, we will
share what we experienced and learned with others in our home communities.
What is this year’s theme?
Hyperlink… “let us
consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to
meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…” – Hebrews
10:24-25
Provoke. Poke. Invoke. Love. Gather. Guide.
Six words that start us on our journey to Hyperlink: CLAY
2.012. Are you ready to explore your connections?
Who gets to attend? Youth participants must be at least 14
years of age by December 31, 2012 or having completed Grade 8, and not older
than 19 years of age by December 31, 2012.
When
will it be? The
Gathering will be held August 16-19, 2012. We will have additional travel days
on both ends of the Gathering.
Where
will it be? Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan
How
do we get there? We’re
working with other youth workers from the province to organize transportation
for this event.
Where
will we be staying? We
will be arranging our accommodation at one of the hotel choices that are within
a 15 minute walk to the Gathering location.
What
is the cost? We know
that the registration fee is $375 per person (until April 30th) and
includes lunch, supper and all activities at the Gathering including large
group sessions, workshops, outdoor events, etc. Taking into consideration
travel and accommodation costs we are probably looking at a cost of $1000 -
$1300 per participant. We hope that through fundraising by participants and
parishes along with support from APCI we will be able to cover the majority of
the costs. Youth should expect to help with fundraising efforts in their
parish.
Umm…
What about Supervision?
We will travel as a Home Team to CLAY.
The Home Team is made up of youth, a Primary Home Team Leader (must be 21 by
December 31st, 2012) and additional Home Team Leaders (must be 18 by
December 31st, 2012). We will have at least one Home Team Leader for
every eight youth.
Alright,
I’m interested! What do I do now?
If you are interested in attending the
CLAY Gathering in Saskatoon this August as a youth or a Home Team Leader please
contact Melissa Green via email at: stpaulscathedralyouth@gmail.com
or phone at: 250-372-3912 ext 203.
How
can I and/or my parish help?
In May 2011 the
APCI Assembly carried the following motion, that:
“the Assembly of the Anglican Parishes of the
Central Interior gathered in 2011, prayerfully supports the initiative of a
team of APCI youth to attend the 2012 Canadian Lutheran and Anglican Youth
(CLAY) gathering in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan AND that the Assembly asks the
parishes to consider how they might best assist the project. This assistance could include
encouraging their youth and youth leaders to participate, by their prayers and
by any financial or other support they might consider contributing.”
So, we hope
that you will pray for us. For all the youth and Home Team Leaders attending
the CLAY Gathering. And if possible, we hope that your parish will consider
holding a fundraising event on our behalf so that we can make it possible for
every young person who is interested in attending the event to do so.
Staying Connected
Keep track of
how our fundraising efforts are going, how many people are attending, and
updated information on our blog: www.CLAYlinked2012.blogspot.com.
We’ll also make updates on our adventure once it begins!
